Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain, nestling between the Mediterranean Sea and the Serra de Collserola mountain range. The region had a rich history and was originally formed by Romans before becoming the capital city of the County of Barcelona in the middle ages. These days, Barcelona is a major tourist destination as well as holding world-class conferences and expositions, plus major sporting events. Perhaps more to the point is that the city is beautiful; throw in the balmy Mediterranean climate and it’s no surprise the city has been a branding and commercial success.
It’s perhaps this positive image that LG are hoping to capture with their latest promotional video of the LG Watch Urbane, one of the more exciting wearable products that was showcased at the recent Mobile World Congress, held at Barcelona earlier this year. And when it comes to Android Wear, there are very few differentials between the various devices currently available and still being prepared for release beyond the design, which is where the LG Watch Urbane strikes a chord. In the original press release, LG had this to say about the Watch Urbane: “As its name suggests, the smartwatch is designed for a sophisticated and cosmopolitan wearer that delivers unparalleled technology and performance. LG Watch Urbane is the perfect device for wearers looking to add both style and high-tech flair to their everyday lives.” Under the skin, the Watch Urbane is very much a conventional Android Wear device, being powered by a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 backed up by 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of storage, in common with many competitor Android Wear devices. There are gyro, accelerometer, compass, barometer and heart rate sensors onboard and the device is also dust and water resistant.
LG’s latest advert for the Watch Urbane highlights both the Android Wear’s good looks and Barcelona, using time-lapse photography with the Spanish city in the background and the Watch Urbane in the foreground. The YouTube clip shows off a number of different watch faces on the device and a number of famous scenes around the city. If you have never been to Barcelona, it’s worth a look – even if you have, it should remind you of how beautiful the city is.
