After much speculation and rumors, tons of leaks and renders, Sony finally announced their successor device to the Xperia Z3. There are some noticeable changes from the Xperia Z3 to the Xperia Z4, but some are also under the hood in the hardware department. There were some images that showed up with the earlier announcement about the Xperia Z4 for Japan, and as of now some new leaked images are surfacing which show off the new flagship coming from Sony. While we got to see a little bit of the official device during the announcement, these images show everything off in pretty clear detail with some comparing the Xperia Z4 to the Xperia Z3, so as to easily display the differences.
Visually the overall body makeup and frame are the same design as with the Xperia Z3, short of a little bit of a shift in the color of the actual frame itself, at least on the copper model. You’ll notice this with the comparison image of the Xperia Z4 next to/on top of the Xperia Z3, where the color of the Xperia Z4 appears to be a slightly darker tone. It also has a gold finish on the metal frame instead of the matching copper color like on the Xperia Z3. Other visual as well as hardware differences can be seen with the ports for both phones. The charging port on the Xperia Z3 is on the side of the device with a seal door to keep it closed, and on the Xperia Z4 the port has been moved to the bottom and is completely open with no seal. Sony has also gotten rid of the magnetic charging pins on the side, and the SIM card and the microSD card slots have been consolidated into one port which actually makes more sense.
As far as the hardware goes for the new device, the Xperia Z4 has the same amount of RAM as the previous model coming in at 3GB, but the internal storage space has been bumped up to 32GB instead of the 16GB that was seen inside of the Xperia Z3, aside from the T-Mobile model which had 32GB to begin with as well. Sony has also increased the sensor quality of the front-facing camera, as the Xperia Z4 comes with a 5.1MP shooter. The processor is also up to date, as Sony has chosen to equip the Xperia Z4 with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 CPU. This is a pretty big step up for Sony as they opted for the older Snapdragon 801 in the Xperia Z3 when other devices were coming equipped with the Snapdragon 805. The processor also pushes Sony’s upcoming device to 64-bit, and of course the Xperia Z4 will be running on Android Lollipop right out of the box. Sony has announced that it will be launching the phone in their home market of Japan sometime in the Summer reportedly towards the end of May, but they haven’t mentioned anything yet a bout an international release.
