Samsung Sets High Expectation for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, Expecting to sell 70M

Samsung has been getting rave reviews of its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge – speaking of our reviews, ours will be hitting the interwebs this weekend. The devices have also been flying off the shelves, which have led the South Korean company to set an expectation of selling 70 million units combined. Now this is sold not shipped. The difference is that shipped is the number of units they ship off to their partners. That includes carriers, retailers, etc., while sold are the number of units that those partners sell worldwide. Pretty big difference and one that we should mention.

According to the Korean Times:

“The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are drawing positive responses. I have no doubt that they will be the biggest-sellers in the Galaxy series ever,” an executive said ahead of his participation in a weekly meeting with presidents of Samsung affiliates at the company’s Seocho headquarters in southern Seoul, Wednesday.”

Samsung does consider the Galaxy S5 to be a flop last year, even though they still outside – by a huge margin – all of their competitors. The Galaxy S6 has already outsold the Galaxy S5 according to T-Mobile, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that continue with other carriers and even in other countries. The Galaxy S6 is like a whole other product line for Samsung this year. It features its glass back as well as aluminum frame. We also have a 5.1-inch 2560×1440 resolution AMOLED display here with an Exynos 7420 processor powering the device. Which is a 64-bit octa-core processor. Additionally we have a 2550mAh battery for the Galaxy S6 with a slightly larger 2600mAh battery in the Galaxy S6 Edge. Samsung did get rid of the removable battery and microSD card slot this time around, but it doesn’t look like that has as big of an impact as some thought it might.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge went on sale last Friday in many markets around the world. Including launching on all four US carriers last week. Both devices have been selling really well for Samsung and we’d fully expect that to continue to be the case for the next few months.
