Sony Announce Pricing And Availability Details Of Android TV Powered 4K TVs

Since last year’s Google I/O event, there has been continued movement in terms of one of the latest announced android platforms, Android TV. Although, the momentum has been continued, it has also been slow-going. In fact, up until recently, there was hardly any way to bring Android TV to your living room experience, beyond buying the company’s Nexus Player. Which is an additional add-on unit which connects to the user’s main TV unit. However, at CES in January a number of television manufacturers made clear statements that they planned on releasing a number of their own TV sets with Android TV built-in, as standard. Which is presumed to be one of the ways in which user’s would prefer to make use of the new android platform, compared to a separate unit.

One of those companies who made an announcement of intention, to include Android TV functionality within their TV lines, was Sony. However, since then, details on pricing and availability have been somewhat limited. Although, that has now changed with the company yesterday, releasing its pricing structure for a number of their Android TV powered 4K sets.

In terms of the newly announced details, Sony have unveiled a number of units which will come loaded with Android TV. These included models X830C, X850C, X900C, X910C, X930C and X940C. These units will be priced in an ascending order based on the listed model numbers. As such, the cheapest of the 4K offerings will be the X850C model which will be available in both a 42.5-inch and 48.5-inch variant. These will be priced at $1,299.99 and $1,599.99 respectively. Moving up, the X850C model will come priced at $2,199.99, $3,499.99 and $4,999.99 which will equate to screen sizes of 55-inches, 65-inches and 75-inches respectively. The X930C will be a 65-inch TV unit and come priced at $4,499.99. The most expensive of the listed options will be the X940C which is a 75-inch unit and priced at $7,999.99. It is also worth noting that the X900C and X910C model prices were not disclosed, although the details do state, the X900C will be available in both a 55-inch model as well as a 65-inch model. While the X910C will be a 75-inch TV set. It is probably also worth pointing out that the X900C is the Sony unit which is thinner than a smartphone, coming in at 0.2-inches in thickness, along with a “Vanishing Edge” screen. In terms of availability, the X830C, X850C, X930C and X940C models are all now listed as available for pre-sale. While their general availability will commence from May. Likewise, the details on availability for the X900C and X910C were not specifically stated, although the release did detail they will be “available this summer”.

If the X-range of TVs seem a bit too expensive then Sony also did announce that Android TV functionality will be included in their W800C and W850C units, which will be slightly more affordable. That said, these are 2K HD TV units compared to 4K on all of the X-range. In terms of pricing, the W800C is available in a 50-inch and 55-inch version and will be priced at $999.99 and $1,299.99 respectively. While the W850C which is available in a 65-inch and 75-inch model will be priced at 1,899.99 and 2,999.99 respectively.
