Sony has announced a couple new product offerings coming in the future, most notably their upcoming Xperia Z4 handset which is expected to launch sometime in May with a possible Japan-only launch. They also recently announced the pricing and the release dates for their upcoming 4K televisions that are all powered by Android TV. These TV’s have the Android TV platform baked right in so there’s no need to buy an extra piece of equipment to get the experience, perfect for anyone who hates clutter and wants to minimize the amount of electronics in their living room to only the absolutely essential equipment.
Earlier on in the year, Sony along with other companies announced that they would be releasing a series of Google Cast ready speakers, which followed the initial announcement from Google that speakers with Google Cast technology built in would be coming to market later on in 2015. Sony’s series of speakers are seemingly due to release in the near future, and according to Droid Life, more closely to the Summer time and within the months of June or July. Speakers aren’t going to be the only Google Cast ready devices that Sony is launching though, as they have some receivers with the tech built in supposedly coming next month.
A quick Google search for the speakers leads to a link for Sony’s official online store, which has merely a button to click offering consumers the ability to be notified when the products are available, yet no actual release date. It appears to be the same for both receivers and Soundbar sets, as the official Sony site lists no actual release dates for these either. Taking this into consideration, there is no guarantee that Sony’s Google Cast ready products will be releasing as early as May. Having said this it’s probably best to take this as a rumor at this point. As far as the pricing goes, these details aren’t listed on the official Sony store either, they are however listed in the images below which come from an online electronics retailer. The Soundbars start at $799 for the HT-NT3 model, and jump to $1499 for the HT-ST9 model. As for the receivers, the STR-DN860 is listed at $499, while it appears the higher-end STR-D1060 model will be $599. That is if these prices are correct as they don’t seem to be directly from Sony.
