The ZTE Spro 2 Launches on AT&T for $399 on Contract, $499 Without

AH ZTE Spro 2 1-1

You might remember back at CES 2015, ZTE took the wraps off of its latest smart projector, the Spro 2. Last year they announced the original Spro, which didn’t sell incredibly well, mostly in part to the exclusivity to Sprint. This year, they have it available in WiFi only and the LTE model is exclusive to AT&T. AT&T announced availability today of the Spro 2, as well as pricing. It’s going to cost you about $399 on a new contract, or $499 without a contract. I’d recommend going without a contract. You’ll end up paying less in the long run, and you won’t be tied to AT&T for two years.

The Spro 2 does run a near stock version of Android, similar to ZTE USA’s smartphones. It’s a small and very light mobile projector. It’s about 5.3 inches by 5.2 inches and is about 1.2 inches thick. It weighs in at just over a pound. While it likely isn’t small enough to fit into your pocket, it will fit into your laptop bag, or backpack very easily. It does have WiFi as well as LTE. This model is exclusive to AT&T, and only works on their LTE network. The reason for it having an internet connection is that it can be used as a hotspot. There’s also a microSD card slot, as well as a slew of ports for Audio, USB, and HDMI. We got a chance to play with the Spro 2 back at CES in Las Vegas in January. And were quite impressed with the device.

This smart projector can project at 720p at up to 120 inches in diameter. So it can literally take over your entire wall. Which is pretty sweet. Starting April 24th, you’ll be able to buy the Spro 2 from AT&T. While it’s not cheap, it’s definitely capable. However, on the other hand, it is going to be a bit difficult to find a legit reason to spend over $400 on this smart projector. As most of our smartphones can already do hotspots. This is mostly targeted at business customers who travel often and need a projector for their presentation. Otherwise, it’s just another gadget that most people won’t use more than once after they buy it.
