Xiaomi has celebrated their 5-year anniversary yesterday. This China-based company was founded back in 2010, and it managed to become China’s number one smartphone OEM in a record time, they managed to achieve that last year and are firmly holding that position. Xiaomi is also the world’s third smartphone manufacturer, and has big plans for the future. The company has held an anniversary event in China about a week ago where they announced all sorts of hardware, including the 55-inch Ultra HD Mi TV 2 and an extremely affordable Leadcore-powered Redmi 2A handset. The company has announced all sorts of additional gadgets at the event, click here if you’d like to check out what else was announced.

That being said, Xiaomi is aiming to sell 100 million smartphones by the end of 2015. They sold 61 million units last year, and are looking to improve upon that in 2015. Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, had some interesting numbers to share with the world during the company’s anniversary yesterday. He announced via his official Weibo (China’s social network) account that the company has crossed the 100 million mark in smartphone sales. The company’s CEO said that Xiaomi hit the million mark in smartphone sales in March 2012, and in March 2015, they reached the 100 million mark. The company’s CEO didn’t exactly release any additional details as far as this is concerned, but some rumors are stating that the company managed to sell well over 20 million devices (closer to 30 million) in the first quarter of this year alone.

These numbers are truly staggering, and if Xiaomi manages to keep this up until the end of the year, they might even surpass the expectations. Xiaomi is still expected to release the Redmi Note 2, Mi Pad 2 tablet, their first Android Wear-powered smartwatch, Mi 5 flagships and quite probably a slew of smart gadgets. The Mi Note Pro is also expected to go on sale really soon. Either way, it will be interesting to see how will the company fare at the end of the second quarter, and if they can keep up this pace until then or will we see a decline in sales numbers.
