No. 1 Sun Debuts as Company’s First Round Smartwatch

While it certainly wasn’t the year that smartwatches were invented, 2015 looks to be the year of the smartwatch from what we can tell. It all started a few years ago when Pebble launched via Kickstarter, with Samsung snowballing the momentum in 2013 and Google following that up a year later. Now with the launch of the Apple Watch public perspective on smart wearables, particularly smartwatches, is in full gear (no pun intended). While some are predictably worried about the popularity of the Apple Watch and how its sales will impact competitors, there’s plenty of room for competition since Apple only allows you to use their watch on their platform, and doesn’t offer much in the way of different shapes or overall looks for their watch.

Chinese manufacturer No. 1 has been known to make some pretty slick knockoffs of popular devices as well as a number of their own unique devices too. These devices all fall under the category of less expensive than their competitors, all while offering plenty of value thanks to great specs and build quality. No. 1 isn’t new to the smartwatch game, having announced their first smartwatch late last year and subsequently releasing it earlier this year. One of the biggest features of the No. 1 G2 as it’s called is that you can use the smartwatch on both Android and iOS platforms, as a small app is what communicates between the phone and the watch for the user. Now No. 1 is giving us a glimpse of their second smartwatch, and it’s heralded as the company’s first round smartwatch to boot.

The No. 1 Sun is making its debut here with a round screen and a unique design inspired by our closest star. The pictures provided here mostly show the back of the device which features a biometrics monitor in the center with charging pins next to it. As we don’t see a picture of the dock the watch sits in there’s no word yet on whether this is a Moto 360 style dock or something more like other smartwatches on the market. The right side of the watch features a 1.3-megapixel camera that seems to be in a significantly better place than ones placed on other smartwatches. You’ll also find a button on the side that presumably works as a power/sleep button as well as a microphone and speaker for voice dictation and audible feedback.

Inside the Sun is a 350mAh battery which falls right in line with many smartwatches on the market, and a MediaTek MT6260 processor inside. The 240 x 240 resolution screen up front seems to have the flat tire from the Moto 360 at the bottom, but it makes up for this by providing watch faces that fit best with the form factor. No. 1 is saying the watch will be available at the end of this month, so there’s no time wasted here, and you’ll only need $60 to purchase the watch. To say that’s significantly less than others on the market is an understatement, and you’ll surely not have to wait long to make a fashion statement with this one.
