Rumor: Xiaomi’s Upcoming Mi 4i Handset To Cost 1,299 Yuan ($210)

Xiaomi has been teasing the arrival of a new smartphone for quite some time now. The company has released a number of image teasers thus far, and it seems that this China-based smartphone OEM will release either the Redmi Note 2 or the oftenly mentioned Mi 4i aka ‘Ferrari’ handset. The latter option is more probable though, the Xiaomi Mi 4i has been leaking like crazy lately. It appeared on GFXBench website at first as Xiaomi ‘Ferrari’, and it leaked several times after that. We’ve even seen the alleged design of this handset recently, and it seems it will sport rather thin side bezels.

That being said, we have some new info regarding this handset. According to a new report from China, the Xiaomi Mi 4i is codenamed Xiaomi X9 inside the company. The report also says that this handset will be priced at 1,299 Yuan ($210) at launch. This handset is expected to be announced in New Delhi on April 23rd, at least that’s what Xiaomi’s teasers have been pointing to. We still can’t confirm that the company will launch this handset at said event, but all the info we’ve received lately points to it. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Anyhow, this handset has popped up on GFXBench a while back and revealed its specifications. The Xiaomi Mi 4i will reportedly feature a 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage. This handset will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz which comes with an Adreno 405 GPU for graphics. On the back of the Xiaomi Mi 4i, you’ll be able to find a 13-megapixel shooter and a 5-megapixel snapper will allegedly be available on its front side. According to GFXBench, Android 5.0.2 will come pre-installed on this device with Xiaomi’s MIUI OS on top of it.

It remains to be seen how accurate these leaks are, but it seems like Xiaomi intends to release a somewhat lower-end version of the Mi 4 here. Several other Xiaomi-branded devices have been mentioned lately, including a MediaTek MT6795-powered device which sports a USB Type-C port on the bottom. Who knows, perhaps Xiaomi intends to launch both of these handsets on April 23rd, we’ll see.
