Rumor: ZTE To Release A Colorful Mid-Ranger Which Will Feature A Fingerprint Scanner

ZTE has recently announced two devices from their flagship Nubia Z9 line, the Nubia Z9 Mini and Nubia Z9 Max. The company will announce the third, and arguably the most interesting one, on May 16. The device in question is the Nubia Z9, a handset which will sport bezel-less design according to ZTE’s General Manager. We haven’t seen a mid-range offering by this China-based company for quite some time now, well, we have some information regarding one of their upcoming devices.

This Chinese smartphone OEM has announced the ZTE A880 last year, an entry-level affordable offering by the company. This device features a 5-inch 720p display, 1GB of RAM and is powered by a 64-bit quad-core processor. Well, it seems like ZTE is preparing its successor, some press renders leaked giving us a rather good look at the device and a range of the colors it will be available in. We haven’t heard anything about this device thus far by the way, this is the first information we have.

If you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll notice two images, the first one will give you a great look at the blue version of the device and the second one actually shows off 6 different variants of the device. It seems like the A880’s successor will be available in blue, yellow, red, pink, orange and green / cyan color options. The device actually resembles Meizu’s M1 and M1 Note devices, as well as the iPhone 5C because of the colorful wrap-around plastic back.

That being said, this handset actually has pogo pins on the back, and what seems really odd, a fingerprint scanner below the camera and LED flash. If this is A880’s successor, we’re talking about an entry-level handset here, so it seems really odd ZTE decided to include a fingerprint scanner here. It is of course possible that ZTE plans to release a completely new line of devices which have nothing to do with the A880, in which case this might be a somewhat more powerful mid-ranger or something. We don’t have any information regarding its specifications at the moment.
