Sony Launches Entry Level Xperia E4g Dual With LTE In India

Sony Xperia E4g Dual KK

In February this year, Sony had launched the fourth generation of their entry level Xperia E, predictably dubbed the Xperia E4 along with it’s dual SIM variant, the Xperia E4 Dual. But disappointingly for most would-be buyers, it did not have LTE connectivity unlike a lot of its competitors in the same price range. So last month, in an apparent attempt to rectify this anomaly, Sony came out with newer LTE enabled variants of the device, dubbed the Xperia E4g and the Xperia E4g Dual with dual SIM capability and priced the single SIM variant at €129 in Europe. Now, with India being a strong dual SIM market, Sony has released the dual SIM variant of the phone at Rs. 13,290 – the equivalent of US$215 for the factory unlocked, off-contract versions and is available in black and white.

The 4G enabled variants have smaller 4.7 inch IPS display panels as opposed to 5 inch screens on the 3G variant, but they do keep the same qHD (960×540) resolution, resulting in a slightly higher pixel density of 234 ppi. The 4G variants are powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6732 processor and come with 1GB RAM and 8GB built-in storage that is expandable via a microSD card. The phones also come with NFC (Near Field Communication) support. Both the variants come with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box and each includes a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and a 2300mAh battery that Sony claims will last for two full days on the so called ‘Ultra Stamina Mode’. There is no word currently on Sony’s plans for a potential Lollipop update for the devices. The phones feature Sony’s OmniBalance design philosophy and come with curved edges, a textured back panel, a scratch resistant display, a diamond-cut aluminum power button, and a stainless steel camera ring.

“Xperia E4 sets out to bring many of the premium features people expect of Sony to lower-tier devices; Xperia E4g brings that same quality and ease of use – but with super-fast 4G LTE connectivity” said Mr. Tony McNulty, Vice President, Value Category Business Management at Sony Mobile Communications in an official blog post at the time of launch. “With simple set-up and unrivaled 2 day battery life, we believe both models represent value for those who want premium Sony technology and experiences often only associated with high-end devices.”
