Today, we received a package on our doorstep. It was the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3. We got a chance to meet with Alcatel OneTouch back at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and have a look at the Idol 3. Alcatel OneTouch was very excited about the Idol 3 for a few reasons. One was the price. They are offering the Idol 3 5.5-inch version at just $279 unlocked. However, you pre-order it today, you can get it for $199. If you pre-order tomorrow, it jumps to $249. Another reason why they were proud of the Idol 3 was the front-facing speakers, which they partnered with JBL to put into the Idol 3. We’ll give those speakers a full test in our full review.
The Idol 3 is unlocked and works on both T-Mobile and AT&T here in the States. We’re using it on T-Mobile at the moment, and so far there’s no issues at all. It is running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615. Not the latest and greatest from Qualcomm – but after the HTC One M9 and LG G Flex 2, that might be a good thing. There’s also 2GB of RAM inside with 16GB of storage and a microSD card slot that supports up to 128GB of storage. The 5.5-inch IPS display is a full HD display. Meaning it is 1920×1280. And we have a 2910mAh battery powering this device.
So far, we’ve had it in our hands for a few hours and are quite impressed with the device. It’s very lightweight, and very easy to hold onto. Unlike some of the other flagships out there, the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 is not slippery in the hand, and that’s always a good thing. The last thing you want to do is drop your brand new smartphone. The 13MP camera on the back is pretty good as well. We’ll have to put it in some comparisons with the Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 and see how it fairs against other MWC smartphones.
That’s about it for now. We’re going to get started on our review, so make sure you stay tuned to Android Headlines for more on the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3!
