LG Innotek to Supply Parts to the Wider Wireless Charging Industry

AH TYLT VU Wireless Car Charging Mount-1

Wireless charging has been steadily becoming more and more mainstream, and with devices like the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge featuring Qi wireless charging (the most common standard) out of the box, it’s set to become a big deal throughout 2015. As with anything however, the industry needs to drive this forward with manufacturing quality, reliable parts. LG Innotek, a firm related to LG Electronics that produces all sorts of precision electrical parts is looking to supply more parts to accessory manufacturers than ever before. According to a Business Korea article, LG Innotek has been supplying more parts than ever since February of this year, and that it’s only going to supply more and more of them.

LG Innotek is now looking to supply these transmission parts, which enable devices to charge without being plugged in traditionally, to accessory manufacturers. The parts in question are 70% efficient and the final products are said to look something like a cup’s saucer and come in at around 11.4mm thcik. Of course, there’s already a wide array of these available, and they’re fairly inexpensive, too. There are tons of them available from Amazon and companies like TYLT even create in-car options like that pictured above. So, we have to wonder whether or not LG Innotek are a little late to the party here.

The company has been working on wireless charging since 2012 and the launch of the Nexus 4 along with LG and Google, and since then they’ve been providing parts and expertise to the likes of Motorola, Kyocera and anybody looking to utilize the technology in their devices or accessories. Having an industry leader like this push manufacturing of parts and acccessories is a good thing though, and it could help push the price of the higher-end wireless charges that are supplied by LG and Samsung for their devices. Either way, wireless charging is about to become more common and hopefully, easier for the average consumer to adopt.
